About Jess

Hi, I'm Jess.
I love documenting life and I love helping others document theirs.
I’ve been shooting freelance photography since 2010 and developed my photography skill through research, practice, mentoring programs, classes and workshops. I continue to learn, grow and adapt as technology evolves.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
My photography roots
I always enjoyed browsing through my baby book as a child. I’ve built my daughters’ baby books as photo albums, the same way my mom built mine, I love displaying photos as artwork in my home, and appreciate many styles of photography.
My earliest photography work involved a 35mm film camera and little sisters as models.
By the time I was in high school, I was determined to hire the best photographer around for my senior photos. I loved the whole experience and continued daydreaming of having my own studio someday.
In 2010, I bought my first “big camera” and began shooting family and friends. Over the following years, I refined my photography skills and style through mentoring programs, classes and workshops.
In addition to all my favorite clients, I still enjoy the opportunities I get to shoot so many friends and family members.
Right now
I focus on family and senior portrait photography, and also enjoy sharing personal and professional creative projects on my blog.
I live in Bennington with my hubby, my two girls and two dogs. They’re my favorite people in the world and make me laugh every day.
I’m into reading, music, running, learning new things, hiking, arts & crafts, and finding new ways to spend time outside.
Some random facts about me...
- My favorite word is YAY. You’ll probably get annoyed by how often I say it.
- Music is a huge part of my life. Jamming out in my car or hitting up a show with friends – music is my therapy and I love the way it brings people together.
- I’m extremely clumsy. I regularly spill coffee and trip over nothing.
- One of my biggest regrets is not playing intramural sports in college.
- I find comfort and peace in lots of little things, like driving with the windows open or snuggling a fresh-from-the-dryer blanket.
Me + social media
I’m not sure if it’s because I work in the creative industry or if it’s because I’m just enough of an introvert, but I’d describe my relationship with social media as a love/hate. I take frequent breaks from browsing and posting, but I love playing catch up from time to time!
