My creative roots
Nearly 15 years ago, I was fresh out of college and had just begun my career at an advertising agency in Lincoln, Nebraska. I remember meeting new colleauges and being asked if I was “a creative.” I had just picked up on ad agency lingo and knew that by “are you a creative?” they were asking if I was a designer or copywriter.
Still, answering no didn't feel right – so my response came out, “Well, I am creative, but I work in account service.”
In the years to follow, my love and appreciation of the art of advertising grew while working alongside the most creative minds at all levels.
I marveled at writers who distilled paragraphs-long creative briefs into one clever headline. And designers who turned ideas and sales pitches into works of art.
I have such fond memories of my ad agency days and the immense talent that I was surrounded by every day.
I continue to surround myself with talented artists today, and even though I’m not “a creative,” I enjoy finding creative outlets at work and home.
By day, I build web pages, design content systems, and create content strategies.
As a freelancer, I develop website content, SEO strategies, online advertising campaigns, implement marketing automation tools, and shoot portrait photography.
I’m an arts-and-crafts enthusiast, thoroughly enjoying family life and the loads of creativity that comes along with day to day life.
My career has taken me through many unique marketing and business challenges, and down many rabbit holes. I know enough HTML to be dangerous and consider myself both an expert and a student of the constantly evolving field of marketing.
I work best and am most fulfilled by projects that require a healthy balance of creativity and strategy.
